Renewable energy and grid stability-III: Practical steps needed
Feb 15: Our case studies show that there are straightforward, practical steps that countries can take to adapt existing power markets to much higher levels of variable renewable generation.
8These measures can help assure security of supply and grid reliability without the need for new, costly subsidies for back-up generation, for example via additional markets for capacity.
8The point to note however is that there is no single prescription for stabilizing a high renewables grid.
8There are nine approaches from the case studies, noting that no individual country would have to adopt every measure, rather what is needed is a selection according to their circumstances.
8It is argued that emerging countries should consider taking similar steps, rather than embarking on a radical redesign of their power markets.
