Wind energy is constrained by the risk of variability in wind speed as inherent for wind energy projects. Some states now suffer from PLF levels.
8The sector is also constrained by the high counterparty credit risk arising out of its exposure to the state-owned distribution utilities having stretched liquidity position and weak compliance of renewable energy purchase obligation norms by the state-owned utilities, which have led to subdued renewable energy certificate (REC) prices and significant unsold inventory for the sector as a whole.
8But despite that, some wind energy companies are doing well

Good days are up ahead for Coal India Ltd.
8The 2016-17 performance was impacted by multiple headwinds.
8The impact of grade slippage, fall in e-auction prices, weak demand and de-stocking, and wage hike provisions led to a 31% YoY decline in adjusted EBITDA.
8The headwinds, according to one analysis, is are now behind, with demand and e-auction prices now improving.
8Closing of unviable and unground mines is likely to drive significant cost saving.
8And  volume growth is now accelerating and re-stocking by power companies will boost dispatches in the second half of this year.

The GVK Group's power plants are responsible for the massive losses suffered by this diversified industrial conglomerate.
8The gas based power plants -- of which one has been sold but funds are yet to be realized -- are understandably sick The government's refusal to extend the gas subsidy scheme has meant further trouble.
8ONGC has come out with a tender for 5.45 MMTPA of gas from the S-1 and VA fields, not very far from GVK's units, but the price sought for gas is unviable for gas based power production..
8But what is of concern is the company's inability to wrangle profits out of its coal and hydel units
8As the GVK group's losses mount, its power plants are likely to slip into deeper trouble.

PTC India Ltd, the country's largest power trader, is finding  signs of stress in the Indian power sector
8The impact of low demand was on two aspects of the power market, first the volumes of power trading market increased by 3.47% (119,230 MUs in FY17 viz. a viz. 115,231 MUs in FY16) as compared to 5% increase in energy generation and 9.66% increase in installed capacity and second, it created a buyers’ market creating downward pressures on the trading margins.
8What seems to be of concern, the increase of UI market by 11.9%, requiring more emphasis in broadening ancillary services market.
8The lower tariffs being discovered through power exchange and competitive bids for short term power and renewable energy have put a huge downward pressure in the trading margins, the company said.
8What is more, the goal posts keep changing as state level regulations for open access and net metering keeps fluctuating
8Forget about the long term, even medium term agreements for power procurement which provide a realistic tenure for demand supply matching and tariffs, are not picking up at a pace required.
8At present multiple generators cannot bid through a trader in the medium term competitive bidding, but allowing this will give traders and generating companies more comforts in terms of counterparty risk mitigation.

Global warming has made increasing use of coal for power generation a risky proposition. If taxes on carbon are imposed and if renewable power costs continue to slide, coal based power units will find it difficult to go to the capital approval stage.
8Investing in hydel projects may seem like a viable option but the problem is hydel power companies have begun experiencing difficulties in entering into Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs)
8The tariff for new hydro-electric projects is relatively higher due to high initial investment and is site specific.
8Beneficiaries prefer to purchase their additional power requirement on short term basis through power exchange or e-procurement rather than opting for long term/medium term PPAs.
8As such sale of energy from projects having higher tariff is getting difficult, in present day’s power trading scenario.
8Companies are finding it difficult to dispatch of power from new projects through long term PPAs.

One of our most effective business development tools is our phone validated contact list of decision makers in the industrial segments that we cover.
8We go to extraordinary lengths to give you at least 5 to 8 key contacts (solely responsible for projects) within each company, facility and unit or project
8The onus of implementing a project moves from an owner to the contractor, and we shift our focus accordingly, giving you a list of phone validated contact numbers for every contractor associated with a project
8We understand that striking a deal is all about building relationships with the right people at the right time.
8So not everyone figures in our contact list. We pick and chose departmental heads who you can talk business with.
Among the departments that we keep track of within a given industrial facility are:
8Facility in-charge
8Purchase in-charge
8Engineering in-charge
8Projects in-charge
8Logistics in-charge
8HSE in-charge
8IT in-charge
8We also have contact lists within every unit within a facility. There is an independent contact list too for the company or for headquarters.
Having a valid contact list within a running project is of paramount importance.
We give you the right onsite names of the:

8Manager representing the owner

The new idea that is being pushed around is hybrid solar thermal installations
8They promise a higher efficiency, a stable output. In addition, s hybridized solar energy with thermal power plants that run on coal reduces consumption of coal. Moreover, the major hurdle of land requirement for solar panel installations stands solved as power plants are having ample space.
8The idea is that various power plant auxiliaries require steam during unit startup, normal running and shutdown, such as Turbine sealing, Fuel oil atomizing, Soot blowing, VAM etc.
8This steam is supplied at 13-15 ksc and 200-250c. The steam is usually extracted from CRH and MS lines. Both sources of steam are high energy steam which is then throttled to low quality steam.
8The point is to use solar energy to produce this steam. This can be done by using the parabolic trough (CSP) technology and the steam so produced can be directly used in the power cycle to gain additional MWe.
